The origins of Cezar’s Research & Development ( R&D) Department date back to 1996 – around which time the company obtained ISO 9001 certification and its owner visited Fleming Potter, the American leading printer of high performance labels and the producer of labels for Jack Daniels and Jim Beam.
In the first year of operation the R&D team consisted of only a few people and worked under the name of Quality Control Lab that supervised all matters relating to delivery, process and end product. The Lab employed quality procedures used by Fleming Potter as at that time such systems had not yet been developed in Poland.
In 1999 the lab was transformed into the Technology and Quality Department that included the Research Lab. The Lab was equipped with specialist devices for the analysis of paints and substrates: the purchase was financed jointly by Cezar S.A. (then known as CEZAR Printing House) and the world’s leading printing companies: German Zanders Feinpapiere AG (paper manufacturer) and French Sun Chemical (producer of paints and lacquers), formerly Coates Lorilleux.
Between 1998 - 2003 the work focused mainly on the implementation of new technology of UV paint printing on thin plastic substrates – a technology that allows the application of IML decoration method (known as In Mould Labelling). Since this technology was totally new in Europe, there were no ready production solutions: the necessary parameters of production processes and requirements relating to raw materials, machinery etc. were established after a series of technological trials and tests.
Technologies of this type are characterized by high level of complexity and need to be constantly developed and improved.
Consequently, in 2004 the Technology and Quality Department was transformed into the specialized Research and Development Department (R&D), that has become the only printing research unit of the kind in Poland, and one of very few in Europe. Expertise, knowledge, recording methods in research into UV technologies and its position in the market earned Cezar’s R&D new specialist laboratory equipment for testing the drying effectiveness of UV paints. Now we can share the results of our research with others.
